Domestic airline passenger traffic in the Philippines rose 10 percent from a year earlier to 5.7 million passengers in the first half, the government said Thursday.
Civil Aeronautics Board data showed Cebu Pacific carried 2.57 million passengers in the January-June period, accounting for 45 percent of total domestic passenger traffic, while Philippine Airlines carried 2.25 million.
"The more budget airlines there are, the more they can entice people to travel via airplanes," the board’s deputy chief Porvenir Porciuncula told Dow Jones Newswires.
"All carriers are increasing flights," he added.
He said the increase was achieved despite soaring oil prices.
