Philippine air passenger traffic up 10 %: regulator !

  • Domestic airline passenger traffic in the Philippines rose 10 percent from a year earlier to 5.7 million passengers in the first half, the government said Thursday.
  • Civil Aeronautics Board data showed Cebu Pacific carried 2.57 million passengers in the January-June period, accounting for 45 percent of total domestic passenger traffic, while Philippine Airlines carried 2.25 million.
  • "The more budget airlines there are, the more they can entice people to travel via airplanes," the board’s deputy chief Porvenir Porciuncula told Dow Jones Newswires.
  • "All carriers are increasing flights," he added.
  • He said the increase was achieved despite soaring oil prices.
